Rubber Production Process

Rubber production process

Process begins:

    1. Overview

The main raw material is raw rubber,  a variety of ingredients,  as well as the framework material--fiber and metal materials,  the basic rubber production process including mastication(kneading),  mixing,  calendering,  extrusion,  molding,  vulcanizing six basic steps .

Rubber machining process is mainly to solve the contradiction between plastic and elastic process,  through a variety of processing methods,  so that the elastic rubber into a plastic compound rubber which has plasticity,  then adding a variety of ingredient to the semi-finished products,  and by vulcanizing to form the rubber products have highly elastic,  good physical and mechanical properties.

   2 Rubber Processing

    2.1 mastication process

Raw rubber masticated by mechanical stress,  heat,  oxygen or adding certain chemicals and other methods to make the tough raw rubber elastic state into a soft,  easy process for processing plastic state.

Raw rubber mastication aim is to reduce its elasticity,  increase its plasticity,  and receive appropriate fluidity to meet kneaded,  calendering,  extrusion,  molding,  vulcanizing and mortar manufactured sponge rubber manufacturing processes and other processes requirements.

Mastering proper mastication plasticity is crucial for rubber processing and product quality. Under the premise of meeting the processing requirements should minimize plasticity. With the constant viscosity rubber,  rubber low viscosity occur,  and some do not need masticated, then directly kneaded.

In the rubber industry,  the most commonly used methods of machine mastication and chemical mechanical mastication. Major equipment mechanical mastication method used is open mixing mill,  rubber internal mixer and screw machine mastication. Chemical mastication method is to add chemical mechanical mastication mastication process to improve effectiveness.

Open mixing mill mastication temperature is generally below 80 ℃,  belonging to low mechanical mixing method. Screw kneader mixer and the discharge temperature above 120 ℃,  even up to 160-180 ℃,  belonging to the high temperature mechanical mixing.

Before mixing,  raw rubber need drying glue,  cut rubber,  plastic and crushing plastic and other election deal to mastication.

    Several rubbers masticated features:

When natural rubber masticated by open mill,  roller temperature is 30-40 ℃,  time is about 15-20min; using mixer mastication when the temperature reaches above 120 ℃,  time is about 3-5min.

The Mooney viscosity of Styrene-butadiene rubber is between 35-60 and more,  therefore,  styrene-butadiene rubber can operate without mastication,  but after mastication can improve dispersibility.

Butadiene rubber has a cold,  lack of mastication effect. The Mooney viscosity of Butadiene rubber is low,  you can not mastication.

Neoprene has large plastic,  thin before mastication can pass 3-5 times through thin temperature 30-40 ℃.

EPDM main chain is saturated structure of molecules caused by mastication difficult cleavage,  so to select varieties of low Mooney viscosity instead of mastication.

Nitrile rubber plastic is small,  toughness,  heat big time mastication. When the mill to be used under low temperature 40 ℃,  small roll nip,  low capacity and segmentation mastication,  so you can receive good results.

    2.2 mixing process

Mixing means the process that mixing the agents of various kinds of raw rubber by the mixing machine. Quality of mixing has a decisive influence for further processed and finished quality plastic material. even a very good rubber formula, if the mixing is not good, it will be dispersed with uneven rubber plastic is too high or too low, easy to scorch,  blooming, so that the calendering, extrusion, coating and vulcanizing and other processes can not be normal, but also lead to performance degradation products.

Mixing method is generally divided into open mill mixing and internal mixing. Both methods are a batch mixing, which is currently the most widely used method.

Open mill mixing process is divided into three stages,  namely the package rolls (adding softening stage raw rubber), eating flour (adding powder mixed phase) and turn refining (after eating the raw rubber powder and compounding agents are up uniformly dispersed stage).

According to the type, purpose, performance are different, process are different. Mixing should pay attention to increase the amount of the order of addition of various factors, roll away, roll temperature,  mixing time and roller speed and ratio and so on. Neither inadequate mixing, but not too refined.

Internal mixer is divided into three stages, namely wet, disperse and kneading, internal mixing were under pressure and high temperature. Methods of operation are generally divided into two section mixing method and one section mixing method.

One section mixing method refers to a complete mixing through the internal mixer, then get the rubber sheet after calendering. He applies to all-natural rubber or synthetic rubber doped with not more than 50% of the compound, in one section mixing operations, often using a batch gradual addition method, is not so intense gum increased, generally use slow mixing machine, or use two-speed internal mixer, sulfur is added when the temperature must be below 100 ℃. Its feeding order is living rubber - small material - reinforcing agent - filler - oil softener - Discharge - cooling - plus sulfur and ultra accelerator.

Two section mixing method is mixing twice in the internal mixer. This method is suitable for containing more than 50% of a synthetic rubber obtained compound, this method can be avoided the drawbacks of taking long time and high temperature during the kneading period. This first step is same with one section mixing method, except adding sulfide and active promoter, a period of mixing after cooling, parked a certain time, and then to the second stage kneading. After kneading then put onto the calendar and add sulfide. This method have the advantage of shorter mixing time, and lower temperature, with a more uniform dispersion, high quality mixing material.

    2.3 calendering process

Calendar is made of rubber compound on the calendar and skeleton film or tape semi-finished material process, which includes sheeting,  laminating, pressure-type and textiles hanging glue and other operations.

The main equipment process is calendar machine, calender machine generally consists of work rolls, racks, stand, gear, speed and pitch devices, roller heating and cooling equipment,  lubrication systems, and emergency stop devices. Calendar have many types, according of work roll can divided into two, three, four type.According the arrangement of roller, it can be divided into vertical and horizontal types; Three-roll have upright style, Γ type and triangles; Four rolls have Γ, L-type, Z-type and S-type variety. According to the process, it have sheeting calender (for rolling the rubber sheet or fabric to stick glue, most three or four rolls roll, the speed of each roller are different), friction calender (for the textile material friction, each roll was a certain ratio, the middle roller speed is lager. with the ratio rubbed into textiles), the common calender (also known as the universal calendar, have the function of sheeting and friction, have three or four rollers, and can  adjust speed ratio), pressure-type calendar,  bonding calendar and wire bonding calender.

Calendering process generally includes the steps of: warm and providing glue for the rubber; textile guide open and dry (and sometimes dipping).Rubber in four roll or the three-roll calender machine sheeting or hang on fabric glue and rolling intermediate cooling, coiling, Cutting off,  place, etc

Before calendering, need to preprocess rubber and textile fabrics,  before rubber raw materials go into calendar, need to mixing on mixing mill, called preheat, its purpose is to improve the mixing  uniformity of rubber, further increase plasticity, raise the temperature

, Increase the plasticity.In order to improve the rubber and fabric adhesive performance, ensure the quality of calender, need for fabric drying, control the moisture content of 1-2%, moisture content is low, fabric to harden, rolling easy damage high water content, poor adhesion force.

Several kinds of common rubber calender performance, Natural rubber hot shaping, little shrinkage, rolling easily, easy adhesion hot roller, should control the temperature, in order to smoothly transfer film;thermoplastic styrene-butadiene rubber, shrinkage of large, therefore used for rubber should fully plasticate calendering. because of styrene butadiene rubber calender heat-sensitive is very significant, rolling temperature should be lower than natural rubber, each roll temperature difference has a high to low;neoprene adhesive roll in the 75-95℃, difficult to calender, low temperature or high temperature method should be used, rolling cooling as quickly as possible, mixed with paraffin、stearic acid can reduce sticking phenomenon;ethylene propylene rubber calender performance is good, can continuous operation in a wide range of temperatures, rubber,  when the temperature is too low contraction, easy prone to bubbles;NBR thermoplastic, Systolic big, in the kind of adding filler or rubber softener can reduce shrinkage, When the filler weight more than 50% of weight of raw rubber, To get a smooth surface of the film, Nitrile rubber viscosity a little cold roll.

  2.4 Drawing process

Extrusion process by extruding pattern in a cylinder wall and screw, make the rubber reach the purpose of extrusion and preliminary modeling,  extrusion technology has become extrusion process.

The process is the main equipment of extruder.

Several kinds of rubber extrusion characteristics: Natural rubber extrusion speed, Little shrinkage.Body temperature 50-60℃, head 70-80℃, die 80-90℃, Styrene-butadiene rubber extrusion speed is slow, compression deformation is big, rough surface, Body temperature50-70℃, head 70-80℃, die 100-105℃, Neoprene without sufficient thermal refining before delivery, Body temperature 50℃, head 60℃, die 70℃, Ethylene propylene rubber extrusion speed、Little shrinkage, Body temperature 60-70℃, head 80-130℃, die 90-140℃.Nitrile rubber extruding performance is poor, Delivery should be fully thermal refining. Body temperature 50-60℃, head 70-80℃.

  2.5 injection process

Rubber injection molding process is a kind of rubber directly from barrel injection mould sex sulfide production methods .Including feeding,  plasticizing, injection pressure, vulcanization and the mold process. Injection of sulfide is the biggest characteristic of the inner and outer rubber temperature is uniform, cure speed is fast, most molded products can be processed.

Rubber injection molding equipment is rubber injection molding vulcanizing machine.

  2.6 Die casting process

Die casting method is also called transfer mold method or move mould method.This method is the rubber cylinder is installed in the die casting machine plug, In pressure drop rubber casting into the cavity of sulfide.Similar to the injection molding .Such as skeleton oil seal,  less production overflow edge in this way,  the product quality is good.

2.7 Vulcanization  process

Previously, the main purpose is to make natural rubber eraser to rub word; later used in the manufacture of small rubber tube. Until 1823, the British chemist Mackintosh invented the rubber dissolved in coal tar and then painted on cloth made of tarps can be used to make raincoats and boots. However, such a raincoat and boots to summer melt, a winter they become hard and brittle. To overcome this drawback, when many people are seeking ways. American inventor Charles? Goodyear rubber modified tests are carried out, he put on natural rubber and sulfur are heated together, hoping to get a year-round at all temperatures are kept dry and elastic material. Until February 1839 he was successful. One day he put rubber, sulfur and miscible with turpentine into the pot (sulfur is used only dyed), accidentally spilled a mixture of pot on the stove burning. To his surprise, the mixture does not melt after falling into the fire, but the charred remains intact, and the mixture remaining in the furnace is not completely charred elastic. He splashed go for something stripped down from the stove, and found him he wanted a flexible rubber have been prepared. Through continuous improvement, he finally invented the rubber vulcanization technology in 1844.

In the rubber manufacturing process, the vulcanization is the last one processing step. Vulcanized rubber material is under certain conditions, Rubber molecules by linear structure into a mesh structure of the crosslinking process. Curing methods are cold vulcanizing, RTV and HTV three. Most hot vulcanized rubber. Heat curing equipment has autoclave, vulcanizing machine and so on.

    2.8 Other production process

Rubber production process as well as dipping, scraping method, spray coating, plastic banana method.
